
As a key member of the small yet dynamic team behind “Dreadmoon,” I had the opportunity to wear many hats throughout the development process. My contributions spanned from intricate level design, ensuring engaging and tactical environments, to the networking backbone that supports smooth, seamless gameplay experiences. I also played a crucial role in crafting AI behaviors that challenge even veteran players, alongside developing core gameplay mechanics that define the game’s thrilling pace and style. Through collaborative gameplay design, I helped shape “Dreadmoon” into the compelling first-person shooter that it is today, now thrilling players on Steam.
Level Design
In “Dreadmoon,” I designed expansive levels optimized for high-speed player movement, integrating obstacles that promote dynamic gameplay and strategic positioning. The architecture, featuring barriers and choke points, supports intense combat encounters, challenging players’ reflexes and strategic thinking for an engaging experience.
Networking
During the development of “Dreadmoon,” we switched from Photon PUN to Photon Fusion for networking to better support the game’s fast-paced multiplayer dynamics. This transition involved overhauling our network code and deepened my expertise in managing host-client connections and minimizing latency, significantly enhancing real-time player interactions in a complex gaming environment.
AI Development
I co-developed an advanced AI state machine with a partner, which allowed for dynamic enemy behaviors and distinct attack patterns. This enhanced gameplay strategy and adaptability. We prioritized balance and customizability, adjusting AI based on player feedback to maintain challenging and engaging gameplay.
Gameplay Mechanics
In “Dreadmoon,” I developed gameplay mechanics from advanced player movement to a diverse weapons system supporting various play styles. I added strategic elements like grenades and portals, and integrated environmental challenges in campaign mode, such as spike traps and special areas enhancing player stats. These features were carefully balanced with AI to ensure a cohesive gaming experience across all modes.
Gameplay Design
In “Dreadmoon,” we designed gameplay to emphasize the werewolf’s agility and power, with a swift movement system enhancing player impact. Multiplayer features like portals and jump pads increased gameplay dynamism and strategy with vertical and expansive level designs. In campaign mode, we balanced this speed by introducing diverse AI enemies that enforced continuous movement and strategic engagement, ensuring a consistently challenging and engaging experience.
